Existing Routine, PRN, and Treatment orders can be updated from the resident's Manage Orders page to correct entry errors or add missing details. All order details can be edited except the Order Name and Start Date.
For orders received from your pharmacy, some errors must be corrected in the pharmacy's system rather than in ALIS. To determine which applies, see How to Correct an Order Sent from the Pharmacy.
Important: If the prescriber gives new dose or schedule instructions, discontinue the current order and add a new one. Treat prescribed changes as a new order. See How to Discontinue Medications.
How to Edit an Order
- Go to the resident's Manage Orders page.
- Find the order and click Edit Routine, Edit PRN, or Edit Treatment on the right side of the order.
- Update the dose, schedule, instructions, or any other details. The Edit Order page works like the Add Order page. For field details, see How to manually add a new order (Routine, PRN, Treatment, Informational).
- Click Update Order at the bottom right of the page.
You cannot edit an order's Order Name or Start Date. To change either, clone the order with the correct details, then discontinue or delete the original. See Clone a Medication, Treatment, or PRN.
What to Expect after Editing
Your changes apply immediately on the resident's Manage Orders page, in Pass Meds, and on the MAR. Each change is logged in the Audit tab of the resident's Manage Orders page.
Tip: To help prevent the same error in the future, follow up with the person who entered the order. With a pharmacy connection, find who processed it in the Audit History tab of the Pharmacies page. Without one, check the Audit tab on the resident's Manage Orders page.
