This guide covers how to edit existing routine medications, PRNs, and treatments. If you forgot to add a detail or made a mistake, we can update almost all details of an existing order.
If new instructions regarding the dose and schedule are prescribed for the order, you should discontinue the current order and create a new one. Prescribed changes should be treated like a new order.
Edit Orders
- Navigate to the Manage Orders page. You can find this in the Medications menu at the top of your page in ALIS, or click the Manage Orders button on the resident's profile under their photo.
2. Find the order you want to edit. Depending on the order type, click the button on the right side of the order that says Edit Routine, Edit PRN, or Edit Treatment.
3. Now we are on the Edit Order page, which is very similar to the Add Order page. For details about all the fields on the page, read this article: How to Manually Add a New Medication.
- Here we can update the dose, schedule, instructions, and other details for the order.
- The only details you cannot edit are the Order Name and the Start Date.
- If you need to edit the name or start date, you will need to clone this order to create a new one, and delete or discontinue the order with the incorrect name or start date. Read this article for more information about cloning orders: Clone a Medication, Treatment, or PRN.
4. Once you have made your changes, click the Update Order button at the bottom right of the page, which will update it immediately.
To prevent future errors, follow one of these steps:
- If you have a pharmacy connection, search in the Audit History tab of the Pharmacies page for the order. Here you can see the staff member who processed pharmacy messages, and you make sure they know any details you have changed since they processed it.
- If you do not have a pharmacy connection, search the Audit tab within the resident's Manage Orders page to identify who entered the order and follow up accordingly.
