The Impact Review helps your billing team see how a mid-cycle change affects invoicing before it posts. When a billing change occurs, Impact Review displays the suggested prorated charges and credits and lets staff review, adjust, and confirm where each one is applied. This prevents billing errors when services are added, updated, or ended partway through a billing period.
The Two Versions of Impact Review
ALIS has two versions of Impact Review. Both can appear in the resident profile and in the Billing Center, so the difference is the version itself, not where it shows up. They share the same review options, destinations, and actions; they differ in availability, how they are enabled, and the review experience.
- Standard Impact Review: the standard legacy experience, shown as a table in a modal.
- Enhanced Impact Review: the newer, more interactive experience, shown in a card layout with more editable fields and opening as a full page in the Billing Center.
What is the same across both versions?
Both appear in the resident profile and the Billing Center, and both display prorated charges and credits, the same invoice destinations, the same charge/credit/delete actions, and the same submission best practices.
This visuals in this guide show the shared workflow using the Enhanced experience.
Where Impact Review Appears and What Triggers It
Impact Review opens automatically when a billing change affects an active billing period.
In the resident profile, it is triggered by manual billing updates:
- Adding a new recurring charge
- Changing the rate of an existing recurring charge
- Ending a service
In the Billing Center, it is also triggered by billing events, such as:
- Service Plan Completed (care level change)
- Room Assignment or Room Change (rent adjustment)
- Move In and Move Out
- Resident leave events (for example, an N-day leave)
In both places the review evaluates the change, calculates any proration, and proposes where each resulting charge and credit should go.
How to Enable the Impact Review (both versions)
How Impact Review is turned on depends on the version.
Standard Version
Enabled in Settings > Billing Settings > General Settings. You can turn the review on for each trigger:
Enhanced Version
The Enhanced Impact Review is limited release. It is behind an entitlement and requires activation by the ALIS team. Contact your Account Manager for assistance.
Once enabled, the Enhanced experience appears during Billing Center event processing and also replaces the standard-style review in the resident profile.
Configuration Considerations
To ensure the Impact Review produces accurate results:
- Verify that Billing Items are configured with the correct Type and Category.
- Ensure Care Levels and Room Types are properly linked to billing items in Billing Center Settings.
- Confirm recurring charges are accurate before enabling Impact Review automation.
The Enhanced Impact Review Interface
The Enhanced Impact Review lists each suggested adjustment as its own row. Every row shows:
- The Billing Item name
- The rate or amount
- The service dates, including any prorated period
- Whether the line is a charge or a credit
- The invoice destination ALIS proposes
Apply-to-Invoice Destinations
When you apply a charge or credit, you choose one of the following destinations. To change where a line goes, click the edit (pencil) icon and select a different option.
- Next Generated Invoice applies the item to the next invoice scheduled to generate (not one that has already generated). The invoice date is based on the Invoice Date configured in Billing Settings.
- Create New Invoice creates a new invoice immediately. You select the Invoice Date with the calendar picker.
- Unpaid Invoice applies the item to an existing open, unpaid invoice. The invoice's balance appears beneath the dropdown and updates automatically to reflect the charge or credit you are applying (and any other adjustments made during this review).
- Unapplied Credits leaves the credit on the account; it moves to Unapplied Credits on submission and applies automatically the next time an invoice generates.
The Billing Day of the Month (the day invoices generate), set in Billing Settings, determines which options appear and which one ALIS proposes. The timing of your change relative to that day is what drives the options you see, so you may see all four or only some.
