The Billing Center centralizes billable events and automates how changes to resident care, occupancy, and services translate into billing actions. Proper configuration ensures that the right events generate accurate billing items for your team to review.
This guide walks through each Billing Center Settings tab and outlines the recommended setup order to ensure a smooth and efficient implementation.
Access Billing Center Settings
The Billing Center feature must first be enabled by an ALIS team member before settings are available. For enablement assistance, consult your Account Manager or the ALIS Customer Success Team.
To access Billing Center settings:
- Navigate to Settings.
- Select Billing Center.
These tabs allow you to configure how events, care levels, and room changes interact with billing workflows.
Recommended Setup Order
To ensure strong configuration, follow this order:

Communities Tab
The Communities tab is where you enable the Billing Center and define which events generate billing activity.
Enable or Disable Billing Center
- Toggle whether the Billing Center is active for each community.
- When enabled, billing-related events will begin generating items for review.
Manage Event Types
Select which events should trigger Billing Center items:
- Locate your community.
- Click Manage.
Recommended starting events:
- Service Plan Completed
- Applicant Moved In
- Resident Moved Out
- Resident Transferred Out
- Assign Room / Unassign Room
- Room Change
- Prepare for Auto Invoice Generation (5 Days Prior)
⚠️Important Event Dependencies
Some events require additional configuration:
- Service Plan Completed: Requires setup in Map Care to Billing tab
- Room-related events: Require setup in Map Floor Plan to Billing tab
- Prepare for Auto Invoice Generation: Depends on your Billing Day of the Month in general Billing Settings.
Copy Settings
- Use Copy Settings to apply the same event configuration across multiple communities
Map Care to Billing tab
This tab links care levels and care packages from the Resident Evaluation Tool (RET) to billing items.This ensures that when a Service Plan is completed, the correct charges are generated.
⚠️The Service Plan Completed event must be enabled in the Communities tab for this automation to work. Before mapping, confirm that Care Levels, Care Packages, and Care Billing Items are accurately configured.
Review Care Levels or Care Packages
Verify that your care structure reflects your community’s clinical and billing model. Coordination with your clinical team may be required.
- Go to Settings → Resident Evaluation Tool.
- Select the Reasons and Care Levels tab.
- Review:
- Care Level names
- Point ranges
- Associated fees
Care Packages can be configured in the adjacent Care Packages tab. If the Billing Center is already enabled, Billing Items can also be assigned directly here.

Review Billing Items
Ensure Billing Items are properly configured so they can be linked to Care Levels. Only Billing Items categorized as Care will appear for Care Level linking.
- Go to Settings → Billing Settings.
- Select the correct Community.
- Open the appropriate billing tab (typically Private).
- Ensure:
- Billing Items are accurate.
- Each relevant item has Category = Care.
Configure Care-to-Billing Mapping
- Click the Map Care to Billing tab.
- Confirm the correct Community is selected.
- (Optional): Exclude Product Types that you do not want mapped, and click Save Changes.
- Review all listed Care Levels and Care Packages.
- For each Care Level:
- Leave as Do Not Link, OR
- Select the appropriate Billing Item.
- Once mapping is complete, toggle Linking On (top right).
- Scroll down and click Save Changes.
Map Floor Plan to Billing tab
This tab connects room types from your Floor Plan to billing items so that room-related changes generate appropriate charges.
⚠️ The following events must be enabled in the Communities tab:
- Assign Room / Unassign Room
- Room Change
Before mapping, confirm that your floor plan structure reflects your community’s occupancy and billing model.
Review Floor Plan and Room Types
- Navigate to Communities → select Floor Plan.
- Go to the Settings tab.
- Scroll to Room Types.
- From here you can:
- Click +Create New Room Type, OR
- Use the edit icon to update existing ones.
If Billing Center is enabled, Billing Items can be assigned directly to Room Types.
Verify Room Configuration & Assignments
- Ensure all rooms are assigned the correct Room Type.
- Use Bulk Set to update multiple rooms at once.
- Confirm resident room assignments are accurate.
You can validate this using:
- Floor Plan view
- Export to Excel
- Room Assignments Report (Reports → Occupancy and Census Reports → Room Assignments)
Configure Room-to-Billing Mapping
- Click the Map Floor Plan to Billing tab.
- Confirm the correct Community is selected.
- Review all Room Types.
- For each Room Type:
- Leave as Do Not Link, OR
- Select the appropriate Billing Item.
- Once mapping is complete:
- Toggle Linking On.
- Click Save Changes.
Event Rules tab
The Event Rules tab allows you to automate billing behavior for Leave of Absence scenarios. Rules are configured per Payer Type and define how billing should adjust when residents go on leave.
⚠️The following events must be enabled:
- Leave of Absence Started
- Resident On Leave for n Days
- Resident Returned from Leave
Create a New Event Rule
- Click +New Custom Rule.
- Select a Payer Type.
- Choose an event from the When dropdown.

Depending on the selected event, configure:
- Leave duration (n days)
- Whether to include the first day
- When to trigger Impact Review
- Applicable leave destinations
- The proposed billing action
- Click Submit to save.
These rules determine how billing adjustments are automatically suggested when leave events occur.
