Use Scheduled Vitals if you want a dedicated list of vital checks (e.g., Weekly Weights, Daily Temperature) separate from Pass Meds. This guide outlines how to use the Scheduled Vitals feature to plan and record recurring resident vitals in a centralized dashboard.
If you want vitals to appear directly in Pass Meds so staff can record them alongside medications (e.g., "Daily Blood Pressure"), you will need to set up vitals checks as Treatment orders. For instructions on how to use this method for recording vitals, refer to this How to schedule vitals as Treatments guide.
About Scheduled Vitals
The Scheduled Vitals feature allows you to manage routine checks in a specifically designated location. Unlike Treatment Orders, these checks do not appear in Pass Meds. Instead, they are managed via the Scheduled Vitals icon on the Dashboard.
Once recorded, the data automatically populates the Wellness Vitals tab on the resident's Manage Orders page and flows into the Vital Signs Details and Vital Signs Summary reports.
Schedule resident vitals
- Navigate to a resident's Manage Orders page.
- Click on the Wellness Vitals tab.
- On the vital, click Schedule.
- If any vitals you need to track for a resident have not already been recorded in ALIS (in this tab or via the Record Single Vital or Bulk Vitals dashboard shortcuts), you will first need to click Track.
- In the Set Schedule section that appears, complete the following:
- Fill in the Start Date and Schedule Interval.
- Click +Add Time. This allows you to choose the time frame (and specific time, if needed) that the vital should be recorded.
- The time frame is based on your Pass Meds shift time frames set in Medications Settings.
- Optional: Click +Add another time if the vital needs to be recorded multiple times in a 24 hour period.
- Click Submit to save.
Once scheduled, you can return to this tab to Edit details or use the Options dropdown to "Disable Scheduling" or "Reset Schedule" at any time.
Record Scheduled Vitals
- Click on the Scheduled Vitals dashboard icon.
- In the Scheduled Tab, you will automatically be in the "Current" shift time frame.
- In the "Not Recorded" sub-tab, locate a resident and click the Record button.
- If a resident refused the vitals check, click the Refuse button.
- Fill in the specific vital value, and update the Date, Time, and Notes fields if needed.
- Click Submit to save.
Edit recorded Scheduled Vitals
Use one of the below methods below depending on how much time has passed since the initial record.
If the Scheduled Vitals time frame is still available:
- Navigate to Scheduled Vitals.
- On the Record Vitals page, click on the Scheduled Vitals time frame tab.
- Click on Recorded and locate the specific vitals entry.
- Click Edit.
- In the Edit Temperature section, edit any of the available fields (Temperature, Date, Time, Notes).
- Click Submit to save your changes.
If the Scheduled Vitals time frame is NOT available, edit the value in the Wellness Vitals tab of the resident's Manage Orders page. Follow the exact same steps 1-7 as listed in the above Edit vitals recorded via Dashboard shortcuts section.
For information on how to edit Vitals recorded in other locations in ALIS (e.g., Pass Meds or Dashboard shortcuts), refer to this How to edit recorded Vitals guide.
Weight Tracking and Variances
Weight Tracking and Variances is an advanced feature designed to monitor significant weight changes month-over-month.
When enabled, a specialized Variances tab appears on the "Record Vitals" page. This allows your team to bulk-record weights and immediately identify residents who have gained or lost a significant amount of weight compared to the previous month.
You can customize the specific variance thresholds (e.g., +/- 5 lbs or +/- 5%) in your Medications Settings.
Note: This feature is behind an entitlement and requires an ALIS team member to enable it. To enable it for your community, contact your Account Manager or the ALIS Customer Success Team.
