Vitals can be recorded in several different ways (during a med pass, via a dashboard shortcut, or during an observation), so the method for editing them depends on where the original record was created. This guide provides an overview of all the locations in which you can edit recorded vitals in ALIS.
Access to edit Vitals
Editing vitals requires specific security role permissions.
Staff: If you do not have access to edit an incorrect entry, please contact your administrator.
Administrators: If you need to edit vitals but cannot access these tools, contact your Account Manager or our ALIS Customer Success.
Edit vitals recorded in Pass Meds
If the vital was tied to a medication administration, use one of the methods below. The method you choose will depend on your security role access and how much time has passed since the initial record.
Edit vitals in Pass Meds
Use this method if the shift time is still active or recently closed (e.g., within 24 hours).
Navigate to Pass Meds, then go to the resident's specific Pass Meds page.
Scroll down to find the Recorded Medications section.
Click Edit next to the timestamp details of the record.
-
In the green banner inside the pane, choose either option:
Edit Vital: This keeps the previously entered number in the field for you to update.
Retake: This clears the field for you to type the new number.
Enter the correct value and click Save Vitals.
Verify the Administered By name and click Submit to save the updated record.
Edit vitals in Med Pass History
This method is another option for editing vitals when the shift time is still active or recently closed (e.g., within 24 hours).
- Go to the Medications dropdown menu > Med Pass History.
- Use the filters to locate the specific administration record.
- Click the pencil icon next to the record.
- Follow the same steps 4-6 in the above Edit Vitals in Pass Meds section.
Edit vitals in Manage Orders (MAR Editor)
Use this method if the shift occurred in the past and is no longer accessible in Pass Meds.
Navigate to the resident's Manage Orders page.
Click the Edit MAR button.
In the MAR Editor page, find the specific pass.
Hover over and click directly into the square with staff initials.
Follow the same editing steps (4-6) listed in the above Edit Vitals in Pass Meds section.
For more information on how general use of the Edit MAR feature, refer to this How to edit a resident's MAR guide.
Edit vitals recorded via Dashboard shortcuts
Use this method for editing vitals recorded via the Record Single Vital or Bulk Vitals Dashboard icons.
Navigate to the resident's Manage Orders page.
Click on the Wellness Vitals tab.
Find the specific Vital Type (e.g., Weight, Blood Pressure).
Click View Past Vitals to reveal the historical data.
Locate the incorrect entry and click the Options button.
-
Choose an action:
-
To Edit: Select Edit, make the adjustments, and click Submit.
Note: If this is the only option available in the dropdown menu, it is because the vitals entry is tied to a medication administration record and cannot be deleted.
To Delete: Select Delete. When the confirmation modal appears asking if you are sure, select Yes.
-
Edit in Scheduled Vitals
If the vital was part of a "Scheduled Vital" check, use one of these methods.
If the Scheduled Vitals time frame is still available:
- Navigate to Scheduled Vitals.
- On the Record Vitals page, click on the specific time frame tab.
- Click on the Recorded sub-tab and locate the specific vitals entry.
- Click Edit.
- Edit any of the available fields (Temperature, Date, Time, Notes).
- Click Submit to save your changes.
If the Scheduled Vitals time frame is NOT available: Follow the same editing steps (1-6) as listed in the above Edit vitals recorded via Dashboard shortcuts section.
For more information about Scheduled Vitals, refer to this How to use Scheduled Vitals guide.
Edit vitals recorded during Observations
Use this method if vitals were recorded when adding an Observation.
How to Edit: Follow the exact same steps (1-6) as listed in the above Edit vitals recorded via Dashboard shortcuts section.
Important Note: You must edit the vital in the Wellness Vitals tab. If you only edit the text inside the Observation note itself, the data will not update in the resident's health charts or reports.
For more information on how to enable vitals entry in Observations, refer to this Observations Reference Guide.
