Use the Schedule Hold option if you need to pause the administration of a resident's medication. Holding a med removes the order from the Pass Meds page.
- You can schedule holds immediately, or in the future for planned events such as surgeries.
- You can schedule when the hold should end so that the order is available on the med pass at the time the resident should resume taking it.
Hold all orders
Starting on the Manage Orders page for your resident, find the More button toward the top near the Physician Orders button.
You can click Hold All Meds & Treatments (since these are the scheduled orders that show in Pass Meds), and you can Hold All PRNs if you want to prevent anyone from giving a PRN.
A pop-up will display for you to schedule the time the hold should begin, and optionally when the hold should end. You must also type a reason for the hold.
Hold a single order
Starting on the Manage Orders page for your resident, find the order you want to hold and click the Options button. Click Schedule Hold.
Similar to scheduling a hold for all orders, a pane will open from the right to add the Start Hold date and time, an End Hold date and time, and a Reason for the hold. Click Create Hold to schedule it.
Once a hold has been scheduled, you will have the following options:
- You can edit a hold if something changes or there was a mistake when it was initially scheduled. Click the Options button for the order and click Edit Hold.
- You can click the Delete Hold button to cancel it if it has not already started.
- You can click the Stop Hold button if the hold is in progress.
Disable Orders
- The option to Disable an order is a similar feature to Holding orders, but there is no scheduling capability.
- Avoid using the Disable option if you need the order to go back on the resident's med pass at a specific time.
