Resident tags are colored flags that surface key resident information at a glance. They appear at the top of the resident profile snapshot and follow that snapshot across ALIS, including the Facesheet, Meds pages, Care pages, Billing pages, and several reports.
About Resident Tags
There are two frameworks for adding tags, and they work differently:
- System tags are built into ALIS. They appear automatically when you complete certain actions on a resident's profile (e.g., add an Advanced Directive) or set the resident up for a specific event (e.g., Monitoring). You don't create these, you trigger them based on actions in ALIS.
- Custom tags are created by your company or community team and assigned directly to a resident's profile. Use them to flag information your system tags don't already cover (for example, fall risk or elopement).
This guide covers both: how to trigger each system tag and how to add and assign your own custom tags.
System Tags: Profile Fields
Four system tags are driven by fields on the resident profile: Advanced Directive, Oxygen, Hospice, and Home Health. Update the underlying field and the tag appears at the top of the profile automatically.
Advanced Directive
Set in the Basic Information section of the resident profile.
- Go to the resident's Resident Profile.
- In the Basic Information section, use the Advanced Directive dropdown to select the resident's directive.
- Scroll down and click Update to save.
The list of options in the Advanced Directive dropdown is fully customizable in Resident Settings, so you can tailor it to your community's terminology.
Oxygen
Set in the Health Profile section of the resident profile.
- Go to the resident's Resident Profile > Health Profile section > Assistive / Adaptive Devices.
- Under Assistive / Adaptive Devices, locate the Additional Devices dropdown menu.
- Select Oxygen.
- Scroll down and click Update to save.
Hospice and Home Health
These two tags are driven by the resident's Contacts. Adding a contact whose type is set as Hospice or Home Health triggers the matching tag(s).
- Go to the resident's Resident Profile > Contacts section.
- Click + Add Contact.
- Add a community contact or a personal contact with the contact type Hospice or Home Health.
- Save the contact.
For more information on adding and associating community contacts, see How to Add Community Contacts.
System Tags: Events
Two system tags are driven by setting a resident up for an event: Monitoring and Quarantine. These tags reflect an active or scheduled event and clear based on the event's rules.
Monitoring
You can set up monitoring in three ways:
- When a resident returns from a scheduled leave. Use the checkbox to set up the monitoring event as part of the return.
- From the Incident Reporting workflow. Set up the monitoring event before completing the full incident report.
- On demand, from the Resident Monitoring Center. Open the Monitored Residents dashboard icon and set up monitoring as needed.
The Monitoring tag stays on the profile while the resident is actively being monitored and after the monitoring end date has passed, until the event is ended. The tag only clears once you manually end the monitoring event.
For more information, see How to Add a Resident for Monitoring.
Quarantine
You can set up quarantine in two places:
- From the resident profile. Go to the Immunizations and Tests section > Quarantine, click + Add a Schedule, and set up the event.
- From the Immunizations Center. Open the dashboard icon, go to the Quarantine tab, and add a schedule.
Unlike Monitoring, the Quarantine tag clears automatically at the quarantine end date. No manual step is needed.
For more information, see How to Schedule a Quarantine.
Custom Tags
Custom tags are built once at the company level, then assigned to individual residents. Adding a tag makes it an available option; it does not attach to any resident until you assign it.
Add Custom Tags
- Go to Company Settings > Resident Tags.
- Click + Add New.
- Type the Tag Name and select a tag Color.
- Click Save.
System tags are also listed in Company Settings > Resident Tags so you can see the full set in one place, but they cannot be edited here. Only custom tags can be created or changed.
Assign Custom Tags to Residents
Once a custom tag exists, assign it to each resident it applies to. Assignments save automatically.
- Go to the resident's Resident Profile.
- In the top profile snapshot section, find Resident Tags and click Edit.
- Use the dropdown to multi-select any tags to add to the profile.
- Changes save automatically.
- Repeat for each resident the tag applies to.
