Care Items can be set up to capture vital signs, so caregivers record vitals as part of documenting a scheduled care task. No separate vitals entry needed.
Enable Vitals on a Care Item (for Administrators)
Vitals recording is turned on per Care Item, using the Vitals outcome type in Care Settings.
- Click Settings, then select Care.
- Open the Care tab and add or edit a Care Item.
- Under Possible Outcomes, select Vitals.
- In the Vital Types menu that appears, choose which vitals this item captures:
- Temperature
- Blood Pressure
- Weight
- Height
- Pulse
- Oxygen Level
- Respiration
- Blood Glucose
- Set any other Care Item specifications, then click Create/Update Item.
The vital fields will appear wherever the item is recorded once it's added to a resident's published Care Plan.
Record Vitals in Care Tracking (for Caregivers)
Once a Care Item is configured to capture vitals, the vital fields appear on the task on the Record Care page. They also appear on the Overdue Tasks widget, in the Care Notifications pane, and in PRN Care.
- From your Dashboard, click the Care Tracking icon.
- Locate your Care List and click Record Care.
- Find the resident and the care item that captures vitals.
- Enter a value in each vital field shown on the task (for example Temperature, Blood Pressure, or Oxygen Level).
- (Optional) Add Notes, or check Create an Observation with the Care Item's Outcomes and Notes to share the reading with the care team.
- Click Record Care at the top of the page to save.
Refusing vitals
- To decline a single reading, select Refuse on that field.
- When the care item captures more than one vital, use Refuse All to decline every field, or Clear All to empty the entered values.
Record Vitals in PRN Care
For an unscheduled entry, record the care item as PRN Care. The same Record Vitals fields appear in the Record PRN Care Item window. Enter the values and click Done to save.
