The Lost to Competitor is workflow for the ALIS CRM allows communities to effectively track when a prospect chooses another senior living provider. This feature records the competitor and optional notes whenever a prospect is moved to a stage marked Lost to Competitor, providing greater visibility into lost opportunities and competitive trends.
Configuration Steps
Feature enablement overview:
- The ALIS Team enables the Prospect Lost to Competitor entitlement.
- Add competitors in Settings → CRM → Competitors.
- Configure a Prospect Stage with the Lost to Competitor checkbox enabled.
- Move a prospect to the 'LtC' stage to record the competitor and notes.
Step 1 - Enable the Feature
Before using this workflow, the feature entitlement must be enabled at the company level. To get started, contact your Account Manager for assistance.
Once enabled, additional CRM settings and workflow options will appear in the community environment.
Step 2 - Configure Competitors
After the entitlement is enabled, administrators can create a list of competitors.
- Go to Settings → CRM.
- Open the Competitors table.
- Select + Add New.
- Enter the competitor name and click Save.
Options are also available to Copy All or Copy Selected competitors between communities.
Step 3 - Configure Prospect Stages
To use the Lost to Competitor workflow, at least one Prospect Stage must be designated as a Lost to Competitor stage. When a prospect is moved to this stage, the Lost to Competitor workflow will trigger automatically.
- Navigate to Settings → CRM → Prospect Stages.
- Select + Add Prospect Stage, or edit an existing stage.
- Select the Lost to Competitor checkbox.
- Save the stage.

Move the prospect to a Lost to Competitor stage using one of the following methods:
- From the Prospects tab, select one or more prospects and use Bulk Edit to update the stage.
- Open the Prospect Profile and select a Lost to Competitor stage from the STAGE dropdown menu.
When a prospect is moved into a Lost to Competitor stage:
- A Lost to Competitor modal will appear.
- Select the Competitor the prospect chose.
- Enter Notes if needed.
- Notes are required if “Other” is selected as the competitor.
- Save the entry.
The modal within the Prospect profile workflow includes a direct link to the Competitors settings table if any need to be added. This Configure Competitors link is only visible to users with CRM Settings permissions.
Where Information Appears
Once recorded, Lost to Competitor details appear in several locations:
Prospect Record
- Prospect Story
- Audit History
Stage Change History
- Displays the competitor name
- Shows truncated notes (up to ~170 characters)
Reporting
Competitor data is available in CRM reports to help analyze lost opportunities.

- Prospect Activity Report
- Contacts Report (Prospects tab / Address Book)
Reporting features include:
- Competitor filter in report views
- Competitor column in Excel exports
- Competitor and note details for Lost to Competitor stage transitions
These reports allow communities to evaluate trends and understand which competitors are most frequently selected by prospects.
