If you use ALIS Billing for resident charges, you can easily generate Tax Statements. The Tax Statement document details how much was paid across specific service categories for a selected period, featuring a summary table of charges and a customizable message.
Configure Tax Statements
Before generating statements, there are steps to take to ensure your Tax Statements are accurately configured.
Step 1: Add Billing Item Groups
This step is required to generate Tax Statements. It consolidates specific billing items into simplified revenue categories (e.g., "Rent" vs. "Care") for the resident's view.
Go to Settings > Billing > General tab > Settings.
Click +Add Billing Item Group.
In the pane that opens, type the group name (e.g., "Rent").
Multi-select all applicable billing items for this group.
Scroll down and click Add Group to save.
Tip: Setting up groups is also required for Resident Charge Cards. To save time, if you have already configured groups for Resident Charge Cards, you can copy those settings to Tax Statements (or vice versa) to avoid duplicate work. Simply click Copy Group Configuration and confirm the copy.
Step 2: Customize Tax Statement PDF
In the Tax Statements settings menu, you can also customize the appearance and legal details of the document in Billing Settings.
Go to Settings > Billing > General tab > Tax Statement.

Review and complete the following:
Community EIN: Verify or edit the community’s Tax ID.
Body Text: Customize the message displayed on the document.
Signature: Add a sign-off or digital signature.
Display Options: Toggle whether to include Prepayments and Unapplied Credits.
Click Preview Template at the bottom right to see a sample document. Click Save to confirm your changes.
Access Tax Statements
You can access the Tax Statements feature from twolocations within ALIS:
Via the Statements Center (Recommended): Go to Billing > Statements > Tax Statements tab.
Via the Resident Profile: Navigate to a specific resident's profile > scroll to the Billing section > expand the Payers tab > click Generate Tax Statement. This takes you to the Statements Center > Tax Statements tab.
Generate and Send Tax Statements
Once you are on the Tax Statements tab, follow these steps to prepare the documents:
Filter: Use the filters at the top to select the specific period, invoice preference, or use the Prepared For filter to more easily find a specific payer. Click the Refresh button to update the list based on your filters.
Multi-select Payers: In the table, use the checkboxes on the left to select specific payers (or check the top box to select all).

Choose delivery method:
Print (All or Selected): Generates the document immediately as a PDF for you to download or print.
Email: Redirects you to a confirmation page to verify email addresses. Once confirmed, you can send the document directly from ALIS.
