It is an ideal practice to record PRN Care any time you have assisted a resident with tasks outside of their Care Plan. This allows for better care to be anticipated and provided in the future, and helps you account for your time to supervisors.
You can record PRN Care in two places:
- Click the Record PRN Care icon on the home page dashboard.
- On the Record Care page for a Care List in Care Tracking, click the Record PRN Care button at the bottom left of the filters.
The resulting pop-up modal gives options for you to select the specific care item you did, to add the time, and how long you took to complete the task.
It is recommended to make sure these details are accurate and to include notes, so that anyone reviewing the tasks completed PRN will have the information they need to decide whether they should update a resident's care plan.
Scheduled PRN Care
It is possible for PRN Care to be scheduled ahead of when you need to complete it. This feature is likely to be used if a resident requires assistance with something in the short term, perhaps for Alert Charting.
If the task has already been scheduled, it will appear on the Care Tracking page in its own PRN List for the shift for which it is scheduled. Record these items the same as you would other tasks!
