PRN Care helps your team document tasks that were never scheduled, but can also be used to schedule tasks you need to chart for a short period of time.
Since items added to a resident's Care Plan are scheduled to take place indefinitely in the future, scheduling PRN care gives us the ability to schedule items meant for alert charting or for other shorter-term reasons.
- In the Care section on the home page of ALIS, click the Schedule PRN Care icon.
- In the pop-up modal, select the resident you are scheduling the task for, the care item, the date range, and the shift and time if applicable. Crucially, type in the Instructions field exactly what staff are meant to document for the task.
- The options in the Care Item list are the same list of items available when you are scheduling for a resident's Care Plan. If you need to add or update the items in this list, this must be done in the Care Settings page. Contact ALIS Support for help adding items, or refer to this article about Care Settings: Care Settings
- At this time, all scheduled PRN care items must be scheduled daily. The task will show up for all days within the Schedule Range field.
- Click Done! Going forward, the task will show in a PRN Care list on the Care Tracking page for the days and shifts you scheduled.
PRN Care Report
Use the PRN Care Report if you have made a mistake scheduling a PRN Care Item, or if you need to review the outcomes of the tasks you scheduled.
Find this report in Reports > Care Reports section > PRN Care Report.
- Review this report regularly to notice any patterns in residents needing extra assistance beyond the items scheduled on their Care Plans.
- Use the edit pencil icon on the left of each item to make changes to the task. If it is scheduled but not yet documented, you can also delete the item.
