While PRN Care is typically used to document unscheduled tasks, the Schedule PRN Care feature allows you to assign temporary tasks to a resident's chart for a specific period. Unlike the Care Plan (where items are scheduled indefinitely), this tool is ideal for short-term needs, such as Alert Charting or other temporary assistance reasons.
Access Schedule PRN Care
In the Care section of the ALIS Dashboard, click the Schedule PRN Care icon.
Schedule PRN Care
After you click the Schedule PRN Care button, a pop-up modal will appear.
Enter the PRN Care Item details:
Resident: The person requiring the care.
-
Care Item: The specific task to be performed.
Note: This list mirrors your available Care Plan items. If a specific item is missing, it must be added in Care Settings. Contact your Account Manager or ALIS Customer Success Team for assistance.
-
Date Range: Select the Start and End dates.
Note: Scheduled PRN items are daily tasks. The task will appear for every day within the selected range.
Shift & Time: Specify when the task should occur.
Instructions (Recommended): Type exactly what staff need to do or document in the Instructions field. Since this is a temporary or special task, clear instructions are vital for the care team.
Assign To (Optional): If your community typically assigns care tasks to specific staff in ALIS, use this dropdown to select a staff member's name. This is not common.
Click Done to save the schedule.
View and Record Scheduled Care
Once you have scheduled the item, it becomes visible to the care staff immediately.
Where to view: The task will appear on the Care Tracking page in a designated PRN List for the specific shift(s) and time frame you selected.
How to record: Staff simply locate the item on the PRN List and record it exactly as they would any other standard care task (selecting the outcome, time taken, and notes).
For more step-by-step instructions, refer to this Job Aide: Care Tracking guide.
PRN Care Report
Use the PRN Care Report to fix scheduling errors or to review the outcomes of these short-term tasks. Print or Export to Excel this report regularly to review and spot patterns where residents require extra assistance beyond their permanent Care Plan.
To access the report, go to Reports > Care Reports > PRN Care Report.
Edit: Click the pencil icon to the left of an item to make changes to the record.
Delete: You can only delete a scheduled item if it has not yet been documented.
