ALIS offers a Privacy button that temporarily locks your screen to prevent others from viewing private information while away from your device.
This feature is available to all ALIS users and does not require an entitlement or security role permission enabled to use.
Access the Privacy button
You can enter into privacy mode from anywhere in ALIS. The Privacy button is located in the top righthand corner of every page in ALIS, providing you easy access to lock your screen as needed.
- Tip: If using a device with a keyboard, you can also activate the lock screen by holding down the Ctrl + Alt + P buttons. This will automatically pull down the lock screen on the current page in ALIS.
Use the Privacy button
The Privacy button provides the ability to hide and lock the current screen in ALIS, requiring only the logged-in user's password to unlock it again. This enables you to pause work and return to it uninterrupted. It also ensures you can secure more private information without others viewing or tampering with it while away from your device.
-
- Click the Privacy button on the top righthand corner of the screen to engage privacy mode. This hides the screen and presents a password field.
- To unlock the screen, enter your password and click Unlock. Once you unlock the screen, the previous page you were on prior to privacy mode will be back in view.
Note that the Logout button on the bottom left side of the privacy page provides login flexibility should another user need to use the privacy-locked device. If you click Logout, it resets and returns to the main login page for any user to enter credentials:
Login Timeout and Privacy Lock Screen
The amount of time that a user stays automatically signed into their session is dependent on the Login Timeout which is located and set in their My Account page. Once you have been logged into ALIS for the set time, ALIS provides a pop-up for you to confirm whether you want to remain signed in.
It is important to note that your Login Timeout settings still hold when you are in privacy mode, meaning that you will be automatically logged out of ALIS after the specified time regardless of whether or not you have the privacy screen enabled.
For instructions on how to change your Login Timeout preference, refer to this ALIS Login Timeout guide.
Privacy Lock Screen and SSO
Not seeing the Privacy button?
This may be because your company uses Single Sign On (SSO), and the privacy button is not currently compatible with this integration. Read this Single Sign-On (SSO) guide to learn more about SSO.
