In ALIS we say split orders to refer to those which have a routine schedule that you can also administer PRN.
The split orders look slightly different than others in the Incoming Orders tab. Instead of showing Routine or PRN in the Details column, you will see both!
When you receive an order like this in ALIS, all you need to do is review and process the routine first, and then the next step will be to review and process the PRN order.
- Click Process for the order, the same way you would do any other.
- Below the resident's details on the Process New Medication Order page, you can see the labels for Routine and PRN. First, Routine will be highlighted blue to keep us oriented to the routine part of the order. There is a Remove Routine button in the far right column of the page if you wish to ignore the routine order and process the PRN for the order only.
- Once you are done reviewing the details of the routine medication, the button at the bottom right of the page will be 'Next: PRN' instead of the usual Process Order button.

- Now it is time to verify the details of the PRN part of the order. The labels at the top of the page now show PRN highlighted in blue to help orient you. There is a Remove PRN button in the far right column of the page if you wish to ignore the PRN part of the order.
- Once you are finished reviewing the details of the PRN, click the green Process Order button at the bottom right to add both the Routine and PRN orders to the resident's MAR.
