Generate and print Medication Administration Records (MARs) in ALIS to support your clinical and compliance needs. You can print MARs to review residents' history, prepare for a state survey, or have backup paper documents on hand in case of downtime.
Generate MARs: Filled and Unfilled
The Manage Orders page allows you to generate Medication Administration Records (MARs) in bulk for all residents or specific groups.
There are two primary formats for these documents:
Filled MARs: Contain all order details plus the administration history (signatures/initials) for the selected month.
Unfilled MARs: Contain resident names and order details only (no administration history).
Print Filled MARs (in bulk)
Filled MARs are commonly used when your team needs to temporarily record medication administration on paper (downtime backup) or when requested by a surveyor to prove past compliance.
Navigate to Medications dropdown menu > Manage Orders.
Click the Print Filled MARs button.

In the pane that opens to the right, complete the following details:
Use the Med Cart or Product Type filters to quickly select groups of residents (e.g., only residents on the "North Wing Cart").
Resident: Leave the Resident menu set to All to print for all current and Moved Out residents. To only print for certain residents, multi-select the checkboxes next to specific names in the dropdown menu.

Choose the Month and Year. MARs generate one month at a time. To print multiple months at once, see the "Past MARs" section below.
By default, the MAR does not include specific administration details. You must check the boxes to include Exceptions, pass notes, Injection sites, and Vitals checks.
Click Print. A file containing all MARs for the selected residents will generate for you to review and print.
Print Unfilled MARs
Use this option if you need a blank sheet with order details but no administration history (often used to prepare for downtime or new binders).
On the Manage Orders oage, click the dropdown arrow to the right of the 'Print Filled MARs' button.
Click the Print Unfilled MARs button that appears.
Select your residents and date preferences (similar to the steps above).
Print Past MARs
If you need to print several months of history for a single resident (e.g., a 3-month history for a doctor's visit), you can do so from the specific resident's Manage Orders page.
Click the Past MARs button.
In the pop-up that appears, you can multi-select any months and years the resident has been active in ALIS.
Click Print.
Tip: If you just need the current month, you can access a single resident's active MAR immediately by clicking the Current MAR button located directly below their photo on their resident profile or the Manage Orders page.
