Resident Monitoring is a temporary status you can set for a resident as a result of an event or incident. Residents who are actively monitored display on a page where you can review and record recent vitals, notes, and interventions.
This feature is designed to supplement Alert Charting policies at AL communities. Certain events require a care team to allocate more attention to a resident's status, and ALIS Resident Monitoring helps you track the progress of these residents.
Resident Monitoring is a feature that must be turned on by the ALIS team for your organization. Contact your account manager, onboarding manager, or the support team for help!
Add a Resident for Monitoring
Once enabled for your community, you have a Monitored Residents icon on your home page in ALIS. You can also get to Resident Monitoring using the Residents menu at the top of your page.
On the Resident Monitoring page, you can click the +Resident For Monitoring button to set the monitoring status and details for any current resident. You can also do this from the resident's profile by clicking the Monitor Resident button below their photo.
Make selections for Duration, Interventions, Monitoring Reason, and type details in the Reason Summary and Intervention Summary fields. Click Submit to save. The only detail you will not be able to edit later is the duration.
Monitoring Reasons and Interventions
- ALIS provides lists of commonly-used Monitoring Reasons and Interventions. If none of the items in either list are appropriate, you can select Other, or we can customize the list of available reasons and interventions on the Resident Settings page.
- You can type more specific details in the Reason Summary and Intervention Summary fields to supplement your selections from the lists.
- Your list selections and summaries will combine together to display a complete description of why the resident is monitored and the additional care provided.
Monitoring Details
Once a resident has been added to the Resident Monitoring page, the timing of the monitoring and most recently recorded vitals checks and Observation notes are made prominent (if they were recorded in the last 72 hours). The end of the monitoring status cannot be changed, but if the end date has passed, you will later be able to extend the monitoring if needed.
- This is a convenient location to add more vitals records and Observation notes.
- You can use Observations to verify the completion of all stated interventions for actively monitored residents.
- A useful policy for your team is to check this page once at the start and once at the end of each shift to add notes and vitals.
If you need to edit the reason or intervention details, click Options > Edit. If you need to delete the monitoring record because of a mistake, you can click Options > Delete.
To end the monitoring status before the end date, click the End Monitoring button at the bottom left of a resident's section.
If the monitoring period has passed, you will need to click End Monitoring to remove them from the Actively Monitoring tab. Alternatively, you can extend the time the resident will be monitored.
When you end monitoring, you will be prompted to select a reason for ending the monitoring. If you select Other, you can type a custom reason. These reasons can be customized on the Resident Settings page.
Monitoring History and Audit
In the Monitoring History tab, you can review all records of Resident Monitoring. You can edit the reasons and interventions if needed, and delete records if something was added in error.
The Monitoring Audit tab will show a log each time someone at your community adds, edits, or deletes a Resident Monitoring record.
